Biodegradable means that the material can go through anaerobic or aerobic degradation, as a result of which CO2, H2O, methane, biomass and mineral salts arise, depending on the environment of the process. Microorganisms found in the environment and feeding mainly on organic waste are important in the biodegradation. At the same time, the term “biodegradable” means very little, unlike the term “compostable”, because everything biodegrades over time. Therefore, it is very important to specify the environment in which the biodegradation should take place.
