Amino acids are used to produce body proteins, which are found in the composition of collagen, teeth, bones and muscles. There are two types of amino acids: essential and non-essential. Our body can produce non-essential amino acids itself; essential amino acids however, must enter the body through food. Lysine is an essential amino acid that the body cannot produce itself. Lysine supports calcium absorption, collagen production, and participates in the production of carnitine, antibodies, hormones and enzymes. Lysine is mainly found in meat and legumes.
